The platonic ideal of “celestial eleganza.”

I am attending a wedding next month themed “celestial eleganza.” Typically, I do not buy new clothing for specific events because I have more than enough fancy dresses to choose from. But this theme has thrown me into a minor existential tailspin because I own absolutely nothing that calls to mind those famous images of Hedy Lamarr slinking around in a frothy, star-covered dress and matching headdress. My vision for how I’d like to look is: “sexy 1960s extraterrestrial” so I have spent the last 24 hours absolutely locked in, desperately attempting to find a dress that will make me look like Barbarella-meets-Little Green Man. The best option I could find is far and away this $900 Dolce and Gabbana minidress, but I was able to find this much more affordable Helmut Lang substitute, plus a backup Milly number in case the Helmut Lang ends up being too tiny. If all goes well, I’ll have some photos to share of the winning dress next month.
