A lesson I’ve learned the hard way more than once is that there is a big difference between designer clothing and good designer clothing. As an inveterate thrifter, I am well-acquainted with the intoxicating fumes that designer labels seem to give off when unearthed amidst a sea of Shein and Ann Taylor. Over time, I have learned not to fall for it — just because something is YSL doesn’t mean it’s my style or I’ll actually wear it — before I give into a purchase it must fit into two categories: resolutely practical and something I covet desperately.
But lately my resolve has been tested by my recent discovery of a thrift store that sells designer stuff online for such shocking bargain basement prices that several times I have had to pick my jaw up off the floor.
