Every Runway Look I Plan to Recreate from the F/W 2024 Collections
These shows got me excited about the clothing I already own.
Every fashion month, I open up a word doc and toggle between taking notes and clicking through Vogue Runway collections. I like to do this as way to both organize my thoughts and search for consistent patterns, whether or not anything becomes of it. One thing I always notice is how much my list of favourite collections differs from the ones I draw actual outfit inspiration from. For example, some early contenders for my favourite collections this season are Erdem, Jil Sander and Altuzarra. But only one of these collections made it onto my personal moodboard. Without further ado, here is every single look from the collections I’ve seen so far that I will be copying unapologetically with clothing I already own.
Chopova Lowena
There is something deep within me that feels called towards this unholy combination of a hoodie, flouncy skirt and orthopaedic shoes. I haven’t worn a hoodie since at least 2010, I would wager, however something about their slobbishness when paired in juxtaposition with a feminine or fancy item of clothing is scratching an itch I didn’t even know I had.
Marni
I legitimately screamed when I saw this one. The combination of raggedy baby bangs, humungous sweater, expansive skirt and heavy-soled stomping boots is almost too much, in the sense it makes me want to explode with recognition. It’s severe, high-end gothic elegance. Like Rooney Mara in Girl With the Dragon Tattoo if she somehow ended up an Upper East Side matriarch. This is how I want to dress every day.
Bottega Venetta
This outfit combines two things I have been very much into lately: massive button-down shirts and voluminous tea-length skirts. I hadn’t necessarily thought to pair them together but after seeing this look, will absolutely be doing so in the near future.
Michael Kors
I hadn’t really given the concept of a simple shift dress much thought in the past few years, but all that changed when I saw this dress. It’s so plain and yet the quality of the fit creates a silhouette that is no less than truly delightful—classic for a reason. This look makes me want to pull out on of the shift dresses I already own and wear the f*ck out of it with a bitchy, pointy-toed shoe.
Lord knows I love a big-ass sweater, and this one in particular, paired with an asymmetrical-hem skirt and knee length boots is giving “collegiate art collector chic.” What is collegiate art collector chic? Frankly, it’s something I made up on the spot to describe a mysterious vibe that skews both quirky and preppy that I’m always trying to pin down.
Tory Burch
Another hoodie. Who knew hoodies were actually good?! Certainly not me. If there’s one takeaway from this season it’s that we’re going to be entering an incredibly hoodie-forward era. And you know what? I’m not mad about it. I can’t wait to start wearing slovenly sweaters in a more elevated context, pairing them with a-line skirts and pumps.
Altuzzara
This entire collection drove me mad with desire. The soft-looking leisure pants paired with pierrot collars! The light coloured knit leggings worn as pants! I can’t even look at these pictures for too long without whipping myself up into a frenzy before I feel the acute need to lie down. Number one on the spring agenda is acquiring a pierrot-collar shirt. I like this one by Local Woman but it’s not quite exaggerated enough.
Rag & Bone
I wear jeans almost every day, an my favourite silhouette to wear is the “normal” shape aka not too skinny and not too loose. I love the exacting-yet-relaxed shape of this pair, especially when styled with a fancy tailored top.
Proenza Schouler
Cropped turtlenecks? Yes! Long slouchy skirts? Also yes! Basic-looking sneakers? Yes to the high heavens! It is more than likely you will find me wearing a variation of this outfit all year long.
You reminded me about an old, thrifted Pierrot collar blouse that's been shoved to the back of my closet for years. Time to resurrect that black satin blouse!
